AccessDrop Link Check for Claude
A free connector that checks whether a buyer can open the link you deliver for a digital download. Give it a Google Drive, Dropbox, Canva, OneDrive or any other web link, and it opens the link from outside your account, the way a buyer who isn’t signed in would. It tells you what the buyer will get and how to fix it if that’s wrong. You don’t need an AccessDrop account.
Adding it to Claude
Open the AccessDrop Link Check listing in the Claude directory and select Connect. There is no sign-in and nothing to configure.
In any other MCP client, add it as a remote server at https://accessdrop.app/mcp. It uses Streamable HTTP and needs no authentication.
Using it
Ask for it by name, and include the whole link, starting with https://. Without the name, Claude may open the link its own way instead, and that won’t tell you what a signed-out buyer sees. For example:
- “Use AccessDrop Link Check on https://drive.google.com/file/d/…/view”
- “Use AccessDrop Link Check to check the link in my Etsy download PDF: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/…”
- “Use AccessDrop Link Check on these three links and tell me which ones need fixing: …”
The answer appears as a card with the result and, if something is wrong, how to fix it. The card has a box for checking another link.
The check_delivery_link tool
The connector has one tool, which only reads.
- Input
url: the full link a buyer will be given, up to 2,048 characters. Only http:// and https:// links are checked.- What it does
- It looks at the link for editing-link patterns first. Then it requests the link, following up to 5 redirects, with 8 seconds for the whole check. It reads only the status code and where each redirect leads. It never downloads, reads or returns your file.
- Output
- A one-line result and an explanation as text, plus structured data:
url,status(one of the codes below),passed(true only forok),headlineandexplanation. - Annotations
- Read-only, not destructive, idempotent, and reaches the open web.
What each result means
- Buyers should be able to open this (ok)
- The link loaded from outside your account without asking for a sign-in or an access request.
- Fix: Nothing to fix. It is still a best-effort check, so open the link once in a private browser window before it goes on a listing.
- Buyers won't be able to open this (permission_denied)
- Opening the link led to a sign-in page (Google, Dropbox or Microsoft), or the site answered 401 or 403. Usually a Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive file that is shared only with named people.
- Fix: Change the sharing setting to “anyone with the link” (view only), then check again.
- Buyers could edit your files (edit_access)
- The link itself is an editing link: a Google Docs or Drive link containing /edit, a link with usp=edit or usp=drivesdk, or a Dropbox link with mode=edit. This is judged from the link alone, before anything is opened.
- Fix: Share a view-only or download link instead. If the file is shared with editing rights, every buyer can change or delete your original.
- This is Canva's editor link, not one a buyer can use (canva_editor_link)
- A Canva link ending in /edit. That opens your own design in Canva's editor, which a buyer either can't open or can change.
- Fix: In Canva's Share menu, use Template link (buyers get their own editable copy) or Public view link (for a printable they only view or download).
- We can't verify this link from outside (unverifiable_host)
- The link is on a host that sends back the same page whether the link works or not (see the list below), so a check from outside can't tell.
- Fix: Open the link yourself in a private browser window. The tool's answer includes the settings to look at for each host.
- Your destination link didn't load (broken)
- The link returned an error (such as 404 or 500), the address didn't resolve, it redirected more than 5 times, or it pointed at a private or internal network address, which is never opened.
- Fix: Open it in a private window, correct the link, and check again.
- This link hasn't been verified (unknown)
- The check couldn't reach a verdict, usually because the site took longer than 8 seconds to answer.
- Fix: Check again in a minute. If it keeps happening, open the link yourself in a private window.
Hosts that can’t be checked
These hosts send back the same page for a link that doesn’t exist as for a live one, and decide what the visitor sees inside their browser. So a check from outside can’t tell whether a buyer can open the link, or whether it lets them edit your file. When a link on one of them loads, the result is “We can’t verify this link from outside”. If the link fails outright (a 404 or a sign-in page), you still get that real result.
- iCloud (icloud.com). iCloud Drive and shared photo links.
- WeTransfer (wetransfer.com). The long wetransfer.com/downloads/… links. Short we.tl links are checked normally.
- Mega (mega.nz). File and folder links.
- Notion (notion.so, notion.site, notion.com). Shared pages and templates.
For any of them, open the link yourself in a private browser window before you ship the PDF.
Rate limits
To stop the checker being used to hammer someone else’s website, it answers up to 30 checks a minute in total, across everyone using it, and 6 a minute for any one website (google.com, dropbox.com and so on). Over either limit, the tool says so and nothing is checked. Wait a minute and try again.
Troubleshooting
- Claude opened the link itself instead of using the tool
- Start the request with “Use AccessDrop Link Check on …”, and check the connector is turned on for the chat in Claude's tools menu.
- “That isn't a web link”
- Paste the whole link, starting with https://. A file path or a link with the start cut off can't be checked.
- “Too many checks against that site” or “The link checker is busy”
- One of the rate limits above was reached. Wait a minute and try again.
- It says buyers can open the link, but a buyer says they can't
- Open it in a private browser window yourself. A WeTransfer link may have expired, a file may have been moved out of a shared folder, or the host may treat a buyer's browser differently from our check. Check again after any change.
- I fixed the sharing setting but the result hasn't changed
- Make sure you changed the setting on the same file or folder the link points to, then ask for the check again. Results aren't cached, so every check is a fresh request.
- “This link hasn't been verified”
- The site was slow or didn't answer. Check again in a minute.
- A short link (bit.ly and similar) shows “didn't load”
- The checker follows up to 5 redirects. Check the full link the short link leads to.
What happens to the links you check
Nothing about them is stored or logged. The only thing kept is a count of recent checks per website, held in memory for one minute so the rate limits work. The Privacy Policy covers this under “Link checks from ChatGPT or Claude”.
Getting help
Email hello@accessdrop.app with the link you checked and the result you got. It reaches a person. The guides walk through fixing sharing settings on each host step by step. See also Support.
